And this is not a practice on its way out, but one that is entering a new phase. The FD presents the views of RWE, the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa), Professor Martin Junginger, and The Clean Air Committee | Forests For Future side by side. Rightly so. But giving different viewpoints equal space does not mean that the underlying facts carry equal weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What do we learn?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>RWE has \u201c100% confidence\u201d in its biomass.<\/strong>&nbsp;But why? The NEa itself identified incorrectly classified wood and \u201cserious vulnerabilities\u201d in the control system. Meanwhile, RWE is seeking further public funding to switch coal-fired power plants to wood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa)<\/strong>&nbsp;acknowledges that inspectors were not required to verify the origin of \u201cwaste wood\u201d. Yet it concluded that the pellets met the legal sustainability requirements. Since when has complying with a flawed monitoring system been the same as being demonstrably sustainable?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Professor Martin Junginger<\/strong>&nbsp;repeats the familiar story of a forest regenerating itself. But his hypothetical \u201chundred trees\u201d are no proof of what is actually happening in forests, including those in the Baltic states, the United States and Malaysia. Junginger was also involved for many years in the standards committee of biomass certifier SBP and led research in which RWE participated as an industry partner. This is relevant background when assessing his scientific interpretation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zembla \u2013 BNNVARA actually traced the wood&nbsp;<\/strong>back to the forest. And found tropical logs, whole trees and clear-cutting. Precisely the reality that The Clean Air Committee and Biofuelwatch have been highlighting for years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A police investigation into RWE<\/strong>&nbsp;is now underway, following our criminal complaint. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is also investigating possible violations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>And now BECCS is supposed to be the next climate solution?<\/strong>&nbsp;RWE has already been promised approximately \u20ac2.3 billion in biomass subsidies.
