Resultaten
Sinds de oprichting en start van de campagnes tegen biomassaverbranding van Comité Schone Lucht waarbij we de Nederlandse, Europese en mondiale biomassa-industrie in kaart brachten, zijn er ruim 850 nieuwsberichten verschenen in de Nederlandse pers en media en daarbuiten, in 15 landen (waaronder Politico Europa, Zweden, Engeland, VS, Estland, Letland, Zwitserland, Duitsland) verschenen. Op basis hiervan bereikten we miljoenen Nederlandse, Europese en Amerikaanse kijkers en lezers, werden er Kamervragen gesteld in Estland en Nederland en werkten we mee aan vergelijkbare onderzoeken in Estland en de Verenigde Staten.
Successen
Op basis hiervan behaalden we vele successen. Zo besloot de Tweede Kamer vorig jaar dat er geen nieuwe subsidies komen voor centrales die elektriciteit opwekken met biomassa. Mede op basis van onze brandbrief aan de SER (1) adviseerde de Raad afgelopen zomer (2020) dat de subsidies voor laagwaardige toepassingen van hout (biomassa) z.s.m. dienen te worden afgebouwd. Mede op basis van onze brandbrief aan de minister van EZK (2) en lobby in de Tweede Kamer werden daarna de subsidies (SDE++) voor biomassaverbranding eind februari 2021 bevroren totdat er een definitief afbouwpad komt. Met de brandbrief daarna aan informateur Tjeenk Willink (april 2021) riepen wij, namens 58 binnen- en buitenlandse bosbeschermingsorganisaties en wetenschappers, op om helemaal te stoppen met subsidies voor biomassa voor energieopwekking. De al vergeven subsidies voor mee- en bijstook in kolencentrales zouden moeten worden teruggedraaid, evenals subsidies voor biomassacentrales die nog niet zijn gebouwd.

Since the establishment and start of the Clean Air Committee, Comite’ Schone Lucht (CSL) and its many campaigns against biomass combustion at home and abroad, more than 1450 news items have appeared in the Dutch press and media and beyond, in 25 countries (including Politico Europe, Sweden, England, US, Estonia, Latvia, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Japan etc.). CSL plays an important role by acting as a critical link between politics, science and the energy sector. By not only reacting, but also anticipating current developments and translating the message to society, there has been increasing awareness about the hazardous side of biomass. At present, a vast majority (98%) in society believes that woody biomass combustion should be banned.
We have reached millions of Dutch, European and international viewers and readers. Science related to biomass power generation is finally stepping into the forefront of debate. parliamentary questions were asked, motions were written and adopted in the first and second chambers in domestic and foreign politics and we worked together with our foreign colleagues on practical studies in Estonia and other countries.
Energy policy debate and decisions have centered around economic and political expediency for too long. We have successfully added society and science to these debates.
We have established a growing community of concerned citizens willing to add their time and resources to create a sustainable future.
