We wrote this last week to the Director of Climate and Green Growth (KGG) and the Director-General of Climate and Energy at the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (KGG) in response to our findings regarding a newly initiated procedure regarding the Bioresources Strategy within the Ministry, which still requires some clarification.

Last week, there were two important developments that we wanted to share with you before the holidays. But first things first! We are proud to share our 2024 annual review and an update from our team.

The other two developments concern the follow-up to our investigation into illegal woodpellets from Malaysia and the subsequent enforcement request we submitted to the Minister of Climate and Green Growth and the Netherlands Emissionauthority (NEa). The good news: the NEa investigation has now begun. However, several crucial matters were overlooked.

1 Meeting with NEa

On Tuesday afternoon, July 15th, we, on behalf of the Clean Air Committee and Biofuelwatch (UK), held a meeting at the NEa office with the research team and director Mark Bressers. During the meeting, partly at the request of NEa, we discussed principles that should be included in the NEa’s Supervisory Research. Afterwards, we noted the most important agreements and principles that, in our opinion, deserve primary attention in the NEa’s research.

2 Missed agreements from the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth

We also sent a letter to the Director of Climate, and the Director-general of Climate and Energy at the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, regarding missed agreements in the Ministry’s continued efforts regarding an ecological perspective in advice and policy. Initially, an invitation to a participatory process on the Bioresources Strategy (launched last June), organized by the three ministries, seemed to be going well. Due to the rather brief invitation, we submitted several questions to the coordinators beforehand. The answers we received were inadequate (see letter and image below).

We are looking forward to the responses from both the NEa and the KGG Directoraat-Generaal. We will let you know as soon as there is news.

We wish you a wonderful summer holiday!

Sincerely,
The Clean Air Committee Team
